Stefan Savic signs for City from Partizan Belgrade, becoming the first Montenegrin to play in the Premier League in the process. The 20-year-old defender is rated as one of the brightest prospects in European football and is granted a work permit by the Home Office thanks to his prominence in the Montenegro national team for whom he had earned 10 caps by the time he joined the Blues.

Tuesday 8 July 1902

Sam Ormerod resigns after City are relegated to the Second Division with debts of £1,000. He was the first manager in the Blues’ history to lead the club to the top flight of English football after gaining promotion to the First Division in 1899. Ormerod won 111 out of 240 games during his time at City, with a win percentage of just under half in his seven year stint.

Thursday 8 July 1954

Phil Woosnam, nephew of City legend Max Woosnam and cousin of golfer Ian Woosnam, leaves City and signs for Sutton United. In three years he played just once for the Blues and seemed to be drifting out of the game before re-igniting his career with West Ham and then Aston Villa. After he moved to America, Woosnam helped form the North American Soccer League as well managing the national team.
