Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...

Wednesday 31st May 2000

Future Blue Gareth Barry made his debut against Ukraine as a substitute and made his first England start against France in September 2000.

He has amassed 53 caps, scored three goals for England and was given the honour of captaincy for the first time in England’s friendly game against Ghana in 2011.

Gareth won his last cap in May 2012 against Norway.

City lost 3-1 at West Brom in their penultimate game of a weather affected season.

Heavy snow and freezing conditions forced the league to extend the campaign by five weeks and fatigue appeared to have set in Wilf Wild’s team as they lost their second game in six days.

However, City had enough points in the bank and went on to win the Division Two title.
