Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...

Saturday 7th June 1958

City beat Hearts 7-1 during a goal crazy tour of North America. The Edinburgh side had travelled with the Blues and played four matches during the month-long trip and won the previous two exhibition matches 6-5 and 5-2. Hearts returned the favour in the final game of the tour, winning 6-0 in Montreal. Including games against Pennsylvania, USA All Stars, St Louis All Stars, San Francisco All Stars and Ulster United, City scored 50 goals and conceded 26 in just nine games, meaning an average of 8.4 goals were scored in each match.  It was hardly surprising considering City had finished the 1957/58 campaign as the first team to score and concede 100 goals in the same season – 104 scored and 100 against.

Tuesday 7th June 1983

Caretaker boss John Benson is sacked after the club crumble into ruin after what had been a promising season under the charge of Bond. Originally Bond’s understudy at the club, he has the worst win percentage of any City manager, with just three wins from 17 games, though the squad he inherited and the finances available played their part, too.
