Following a public fall-out with manager Kevin Keegan, Eyal Berkovic plays his last game for the club.
City are beaten 3-0 by Newcastle in Berkovic’s last Premier League appearance before joining Portsmouth.
‘The Magician’, as he was affectionately known in his native Israel, struck up an unstoppable partnership with Ali Benarbia and at the end of the 2002-03 campaign, was named the fans’ Player of the Year.
Despite this, Berkovic was deemed surplus to requirements the following season and after a spat with Keegan, re-united with former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth.

City’s UEFA Cup third round, first leg tie against AC Milan is called off just hours before kick-off due to thick fog at the San Siro Stadium. Incredibly, the game is re-scheduled for 11.30am the next day!
With all parties agreed, City then take a 2-0 lead the following day and appear to be on their way to a famous victory – Milan had never lost to British opposition on their own ground.
Goals from Brian Kidd and Paul Power put City firmly in the driving seat, but Milan rally late on and Albertino Bigon’s brace earn the Italians a 2-2 draw.

Tony Book is named as assistant manager to Ron Saunders, having been in charge of first team affairs following the resignation of Jonny Hart.
During his month as caretaker manager, Book won just two of his seven games, but only conceded three goals in that time while the team’s attacking displays saw them score seven before Book stepped down.
