Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Wednesday 28th October 1981
City travel to Stoke with a 2-0 lead from the League Cup second round, first leg at Maine Road but lose by the same scoreline to The Potters and with no further scoring during extra time, the game goes to penalties.
In a tense shoot-out, the score reaches 8-8 before the Blues edge ahead again. Joe Corrigan saves the Stoke effort to give the Blues passage into round three where they are paired with Fourth Division Northampton Town.
