Kevin Keegan's City lose a pulsating game at Highfield Road where Coventry City triumph 4-3. The Blues fight back to level the score on three occasions with Ali Benarbia, Kevin Horlock and Danny Granville all finding the net, but the hosts grab an 88th-minute winner through David Thompson to seal victory for the hosts who had previously failed to score in any of their home matches that season.
Saturday 19 September 1981
Manager John Bond's son Kevin makes his debut away to Birmingham but ends up on the losing side as the City are soundly beaten 3-0 defeat at St Andrew’s. It's the Blues' first defeat of the season and Birmingham climb to eighth as a result, just one place behind the Bond's side.
