Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.

Wednesday 7 September 1949

Frank Swift makes his final appearance for City against Everton. The legendary City keeper had already put off his retirement once due to Alec Thurlow becoming poorly, but he agreed to stay on until an heir to his throne was found. He keeps a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Everton before handing the gloves to Ronnie Powell who fills the gap until Bert Trautmann takes on the role as City’s custodian.
