Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.

Wednesday 29th September 1976

City are knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Juventus after a surrendering a 1-0 first leg lead. The Italian side gave the Blues a rough ride in Turin, with plenty of clattering tackles and off the ball incidents, basically all designed to rattle Tony Book’s men. Juventus had done enough at Maine Road by keeping the defeat to just one goal and again, they did exactly what was required in the return, running out 2-0 winners in front of more than 55,000 fans.

Saturday 29th September 2007

Elano becomes the talk of the town after putting in the performance of his career against Newcastle and caps it off with a stunning 30-yard strike. Little was known of the midfield maestro when he first joined from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2007, but the Brazilian proves exactly what he was capable of during this Premier League meeting. Despite falling a goal behind to Obafemi Martins on 28 minutes, Martin Petrov equalises and Emile Mpenza give City the lead on 47 minutes and even future City keeper Shay Given can’t keep out his bullet free-kick late on as City win 3-1.
