Robinho and Elano featured in an historic 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory for Brazil in Montevideo, the first time Uruguay had ever lost a competitive match there to their great rivals.

The stats went tumbling as Brazil, who wnet top of the South American group, handed twice-winners Uruguay their biggest defeat since 1902 and their first in a home World Cup qualifier in five years.

Brazil coach Dunga left out Ronaldinho so the spotlight was on Robinho and Kaka, whose mooted £56million move to Real Madrid - rather cheaper than his proposed switch to City in January - should happen this week.

By the time the pair were substituted after 84 minutes, Brazil had tied up the game despite playing the last 25 minutes with ten men when striker Luis Fabiano was shown a second yellow card for diving.

Full-back Dani Alvez scored the opener from long range, centre-back Juan nodded the second from Elano's superb cross, Fabiano blased a brilliant third and Kaka hit the fourth from the spot after he was fouled.

But the real hero was goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who gave a bravura performance as Uruguay, led by reputed City target Diego Forlan, threw everything at Brazil before their discipline went and Maxi Pereira was sent off.

Elano, whose pass set up Fabriano's scorcher of a 52nd-minute goal, was replaced after 65 minutes.
