We are delighted to confirm that the Blues will travel to Germany on Wednesday August 4th to meet Borussia Dortmund for the Ferrostaal Cup.

The game is an important component of the pre-season campaign and comes after City’s trip to the USA where Roberto Mancini’s men play five times in four different cities.

The game will mark a return to Germany for Blues players Nigel de Jong, Vincent Kompany, Roque Santa Cruz and Jerome Boateng who are all former Bundesliga stars.

Boss Roberto Mancini is delighted to have pencilled another high quality contest.

“I would like to thank Ferrostaal and Borussia Dortmund for inviting us to take part in this game. We have a very exciting pre-season schedule planned and this game is one of our last before the start of the Premier League campaign,” he declared.

“Coming just after the end of our tour of America, this trip will get the players ready for the type of schedule we will face this season, with short visits to Europe for Europa League games.

“German football is traditionally strong, as shown by Bayern’s appearance in the Champions League final, and I think Borussia Dortmund provide the perfect challenge for our final away pre-season game of 2010.”

Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season and like City will compete in the Europa League.

Roque Santa Cruz said: “This game will be a fantastic one for us, and very interesting for me personally. I know German football well from my time at Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund has always been a very strong team. It will be a tough challenge for us as we get ready for the new season.

“Dortmund is a great place, and Dortmund fans always create a good atmosphere in Signal Iduna Park (Westfalenstadion), which is one of the biggest stadiums I’ve ever played in. I’m really looking forward to going back there.”

Borussia boss Jurgen Klopp is similarly enthused:

“We have fought hard to reach the fifth place in the Bundesliga.  Now we are glad to compete with European top clubs in the season to come,” he said.

Ticket details will follow as soon as possible.
