Joe Hart is looking to former Blues star David James to make him a better goalkeeper as the pair duel with Robert Green for Fabio Capello's favour in England's World Cup team.
James is in pole position for the opener against USA on June 12, but City hopeful Hart did his own cause no harm on his Wembley debut in the 3-1 win against Mexico on Monday night.
Joe, who enjoyed a brilliant season on loan at Birmingham, said: "Jamo is a legend and I can learn a lot from him - I wish he'd make me his 'project' and teach me all he knows!
"The spirit in training is great, we work together on a daily basis. We're all different goalkeepers. Greeny and Jamo have vast experience and big personalities, and I'm learning from them.
"It's an absolute bonus just to be involved - as a young fan you never think that you will be. Now I'll do everything in my power to catch the manager's eye."
Hart's World Cup memories will drive him on. He said: "I remember the heartache of losing the game after we'd been 1-0 up against Brazil in Japan. We always go out in an exciting manner!
I think everyone around the world will tune into the England games, they are always exciting
"And with all the bad luck we've had in the past, it's definitely time for that to turn round."
Hart, hoping to win a third cap against Japan in Graz on Sunday, has faith in experienced boss Fabio Capello's ability to negotiate England's passage in South Africa next month.
He said: "He's an intense character and that intensity rubs off on the lads. Everything revolves around us winning, and I think that's where he shines as a brilliant manager."
