Roque Santa Cruz is already thinking beyond the World Cup - and the Paraguay striker is confident that new team-mates will be joining City's title chase next season.
Rocky's Paraguay were pipped 2-1 by Republic of Ireland in a warm-up game last night, with new boy Lucas Barrios pulling back the South Americans' goal on his debut.
Santa Cruz, keen to put his injury-hit first season with City behind him, is anticipating an exciting Premier League ride with Roberto Mancini after Paraguay's World Cup challenge.
He said: "I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of famous faces around the club - I think that once the market starts moving we will see. I'm sure there will be new signings."
Luckless Roque played an inadvertent role in the Irish opener when he misdirected a header against his own bar from Damien Duff's free kick and Kevin Doyle bundled in the goal.
Paraguay will look to Santa Cruz to spearhead their Group F passage against Italy, Slovakia and New Zealand next month, but he knows South Africa will be followed by another big ask.
The City striker admitted: "The pressure is going to grow for us because of the spending, but we expect next year to not only do well but also see if we can fight for the title."
Young Blues team-mate Greg Cunningham missed out on a debut for the Republic but the Academy graduate could get the call from Giovanni Trapattoni against Algeria on Friday night.
