Joleon Lescott reckons he is back at the heart of the England scene thanks to his former Everton team-mate Phil Jagielka as well as his own impressive form.
City defender Lescott rekindled his old Goodison partnership with Jagielka in England's victory over Switzerland to re-establish himself in Fabio Capello's plans after injury ruled him out of the World Cup.
Joleon pipped Gary Cahill to a place as coach Capello took stock of England's injuries, and he said: "I think I got the nod ahead of Gary because I'd played so often with Jags.
"It helped me more, because Jags was always going to start as he'd played in the previous two games. We lack experience at that level, but playing together can only help us. We know each other inside out from Everton.
"It was a great occasion for me against the Swiss and my tenth cap. But I can take nothing for granted - John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are fit now, so I can't go there expecting to play.
"You always want to play for your country, it's the pinnacle for any professional.
I'm just grateful to be back in the squad and hopefully I can hold that place down
"If I'm playing for City and doing well for the club, then hopefully I should be knocking on the door for England."
Lescott is one of five City players in Capello's squad for the European Championship Group G qualifer against montenegro on Tuesday night but winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is the team-mate he'll pal up with.
Joleon said: "Me and Shaun are close on England trips. I've sat with him since my Everton days, I've known Shaun for years. I spend most of my time away with him - his room's like the commute room on England trips!
"Everyone goes to him if they've got a problem - phones, playstations, everything, if you've got a problem to solve, you see Shaun. He's the go-to guy!"
