He’s the talk of the football world and was met by fans that waited as long as seven hours to welcome their new idol. So, just who is Sergio Aguero?
Born and raised in Buenos Aries, ‘El Kun' starred for both Independiente and Argentina’s youth sides before joining Atletico Madrid in 2006. ’
You could be forgiven for believing that all this early success could leave a 23-year-old out of touch, but the family man’s tastes remain simple – though he does have a soft spot for the odd supercar!
“I love the Aston Martin! But when it comes to food, Argentinian barbecue is my favourite and Zabaleta has told me that once he’s back he’ll show me where I can get some great Argentinian meat. Music-wise I like a bit of everything really, but my favourite is Argentinian Cumbia music.
“I just have a normal life. I try and play with my son every day and in my spare time I go on the PlayStation, go walking and there’s a car racing team back home that I like to watch.”
City’s easy-going striker happens to be the son-in-law of the legendary Diego Maradona and though Spanish-based football reporter Graham Hunter avoided comparing the two, he believes there are few as capable as the Blues’ new signing.
“He can become a player that resembles Lionel Messi. What City are getting is an electric talent that defenders in the Premier League will find it difficult to stop.
I don’t think that there are any players in the Premier League like him, I’m not sure there are many in the world game!
Aguero’s rise to the top has caught the eye not only of Hunter, but also of fellow countryman Ossie Ardiles who has told Blues to expect great things from their new number 16.
“He can play as a lone striker or he can play with another guy and come back and create things. He is very, very sharp. You give him one yard and that’s it, he’s gone. He’s quick and he’s clever.
“His vision is to score goals. If he has a little chance the ball will be in the net. I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be wonderful in the Premier League.”
