City and Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko was guest of honour at the recent opening of new UNICEF Early Childhood Development premises in Novi Grad, Bosnia.

In his role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Dzeko met some of the children who will benefit from the centre and delighted dozens of football-crazy youngsters who follow his career in England keenly.

Edin signed autographs, chatted and had his picture taken during the visit.

"I am very glad that the centre has been provided with new premises giving a chance to more children to participate in this programme,” said Edin, who was the first Bosnian to hold an ambassadorial goodwill role with UNICEF, taking on the voluntary position in November 2009.

“I am also glad to be here today with children, I always feel good when I am around them, and I am happy that Novi Grad Municipality has recognized and provided support to this UNICEF’s programme.

“Every child deserves the best start possible and we are here today to support this initiative and congratulate the people behind it.

“I am hopeful that the centre will continue working well as has been the case so far, and provide these kids with the best beginning there is.”

The Novi Grad centre will help the development of children who need it the most and will also help young couples wanting to start families as well as provide dental care and advice for hundreds of young people.

It will also provide workshops and social inclusion programmes to help develop confidence and help them be the best they can.
