One City’s most popular players of the modern era, Uwe Rosler, believes destiny is playing a part in this year’s title race.
With the Blues leading from the front for so long this season, then appearing to fall by the wayside in the final few weeks – before being handed a dramatic second chance – Rosler thinks the reason is simple.
“I think this is our year,” said the Brentford manager. “I think this is a game that everybody has been looking forward for the whole season. There's an excitement and positive pressure about the game.
“Obviously we have the advantage playing on our own turf, in front of our own fans, but I think if somebody said before the season started that with three games to go you would have a chance to go ahead of Manchester United and then have two games to go with your fate in your own two hands to win the title, I think everybody would have taken that.
There's been a lot of good, hard work over the season and now it's time to finish the job. It's what everybody has been driving towards
Rosler, whose first season with Brentford almost ended with a play-off spot in League One, says the pressure is something the players will welcome with the prize on offer so great.
“I would say it is positive pressure around the team,” he said. “Everybody connected to City wants to be in the position we're in now. That is all a part of being a successful football team who is striving to be at the top of English and European football.
“I think everybody should be excited, not anxious because we have everything to win and nothing to lose. We have undoubted quality in our football club and in our team. We are more than capable of beating United at home.
“It is very important that we address that game with confidence – after all, we have reasons to be confident – and approach the task in a positive manner.”
