Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott and James Milner have been called up to the England squad for the World Cup Qualifying matches against Moldova and Ukraine.
Lescott and Milner both featured for England in their last match, the friendly victory over Italy in Berne, while Hart returns after the minor back strain which also kept him out of the Community Shield.
All three featured in every game of England’s run to the quarter final of Euro 2012 and will be expected to bring their international experience to a young selection by Roy Hodgson.
Gareth Barry has been left out of the squad as he continues his recovery from the abdominal injury which ruled him out of Euro 2012, although he is expected to return soon after the international break.
Elsewhere in the squad, there are call-ups for former Blues Adam Johnson and Daniel Sturridge, while there is no place for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who misses out due to the thigh gash suffered against Fulham on Saturday.
Hodgson’s men begin their road to Brazil 2014 with an encounter against Moldova at the Zimbru Stadium on Friday 7 September.
Five days later, England take on Euro 2012 hosts Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on 11 September.
