Wayne Bridge has joined Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.

The former England left-back, signed by Mark Hughes from Chelsea in January 2009, hopes to make his debut for Martin O'Neill's side against Norwich tomorrow night.

Bridge, who won 36 caps for England before retiring for personal reasons, has found competition increasingly fierce since the arrival of Aleks Kolarov in the summer of 2010.

His only appearance this season came against Birmingham in the Carling Cup in September, while twice being an unused substitute against Aston Villa and Arsenal.

City's Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Abu, who has been at Norwegian club Stromsgodset, is on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of June.
