Window shopping: Day Two

It's only Day Two of football's January sales, but trust The Sun to get the ball rolling with an "exclusive" on a player who's long been linked with the Blues.

Still, the Currant Bun's tale by Ben Hunt is based on sound knowledge, and whether there's a bit of inside info involved as well, only time will tell ...

Here goes with Hunt's punt: "Manchester City are set to make Roma star Daniele de Rossi their first signing of the January transfer window.

"The midfielder, 28, has been a long-term target of City boss Roberto Mancini, who has made no secret of his desire to capture the Italian international.

"Rossi, who has spent his whole career at Roma, is out of contract in the summer and could move for a knock-down fee."

There's even a quote from Roberto - "De Rossi is a champion and would be the perfect man for City" - but that's not a confirmation, just a polite recent Press conference reply.

Ben's logic is that "Mancini needs cover while Yaya Toure is on international duty" but he adds that "the deal could hinge on whether wantaway Carlos Tevez is finally sold off".

Ah. Well, Tevez is said to be the prime target for AC Milan, whose striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic "would love to see him join his side," according to supersport.com's quotes.

The Sweden skipper reckons Carlos would provide the Italian giants "an extra weapon."

He's quoted thus: "For me, Tevez is a great player, and if he comes for sure he will do a great job for us.

"Everybody knows what kind of a player Tevez is. He's a fantastic player and he will bring extra quality to the team."

Early days yet, Zlatan. More grist from the rumour mill tomorrow, no doubt ...
