Kompany pleased with point

Vincent Kompany has admitted that he was pleased to get through City’s goalless draw with Chelsea unscathed after recovering from an ankle injury suffered against Real Madrid.

The Blues skipper was touch and go right up until kick-off but turned in a performance of the highest quality to limit a team containing Oscar, Mata, Torres and Hazard to just one shot on target.

“I was on crutches just 48 hours ago,” revealed Kompany.

“I wanted to play for the team. I had said that I wouldn’t play if I couldn’t give everything I had on the pitch.

“But I am happy I was able to take part, because it was not the most comfortable game.”

It was in West London that the Blues surrendered their unbeaten league record last season but there were no slip-ups this time around, with Vincent’s partnership with Matija Nastasic looking more solid with each passing week.

“It’s always a difficult away game. I don’t think there are many times we come here and win,” he said.

“In the end it was a draw and as a defender I am happy with a clean sheet – I guess that’s what I’m going to take out of the game.

Despite City holding most of the possession and creating more chances than the hosts, Kompany believes the goalless draw was still a good result.

“Our last performance against Real Madrid wasn’t as bad as what the table shows at the moment. But this is another big game out of the way for us and we look forward to the other games and we feel that we can do enough to win a lot of games from here until the end of the season.”
