Solid Belgium stroll to victory in Serbia
- Posted by Nicola McCarthy
Vincent Kompany’s Belgium showed their intention to be in Brazil with an impressive win over Aleksandar Kolarov and Matija Nastasic’s Serbia.
The 3-0 victory means the City captain’s home nation go joint top in Group A ahead of their clash with Scotland on Wednesday and certainly underlines their reputation as an emerging force on the European stage.
Serbia started well and had most of the chances in the first half, but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play in the 34th minute when Christian Benteke headed home.
Kevin De Bruyne doubled the lead in the second half and Kevin Mirallas netted the third to seal the deal just before full time.
Defeat for the Serbians is the first of the campaign and means they remain on four points as they travel to Macedonia for their mid-week fixture.
