What an incredible December has been and arguably, this was the hardest month yet to choose just three nominees for the Etihad Player of the Month – so good luck selecting a winner!
There were 26 goals scored in the nine games the Blues played during December – eight of which ended in victory.
With a 3-2 win over Bayern Munich, a 6-3 win against Arsenal plus a 2-1 victory over Liverpool, it has been a stellar few weeks for a rampant City side that have thrilled and entertained in equal measure.
There were no less than 13 serious contenders for the December prize and whittling that list down to just three has been almost impossible – but we’ve done it.
So no place for Samir Nasri, Alvaro Negredo, Aleks Kolarov, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Edin Dzeko, Pablo Zabaleta, Sergio Aguero or Joe Hart this time – despite all making major contributions that could easily have seen them make the shortlist.
The trio that have made the list are below - now all we need is for you to get voting and let us know who the cream of the crop was for an unforgettable month.
Two goals and no less than five assists for Milner who is playing the best football of his City career to date. The England midfielder hit peak form with a stunning display in the 3-2 win over Bayern Munich and made both of Edin Dzeko’s goals in the 3-1 win at Leicester as well as grabbing a decisive fourth at Fulham.
Something of an unsung hero, Milner has become a firm fans’ favourite and a vital member of Pellegrini’s side, never giving less than 100% - but will he earn your vote?
It took time for Navas to find his feet in the Premier League, but now he has adapted to the hectic pace of English football, he is showing why he is a regular member of the Spain team.
Jesus has proved a constant thorn to opposition defences during December where he made three goals and scored a crucial goal himself at Fulham with the game in the balance. He has the knack of picking out the perfect pass in pressure situations and laid on Alvaro Negredo’s goal against Liverpool as well as picking out Dzeko for the winner against Crystal Palace – but has he done enough to win the December award?
Two sublime goals against Arsenal proved that Fernandinho can find the net - given licence to roam! That, however, is not the sole reason the Brazilian is in this month’s shortlist. ‘Ferna’ has been outstanding for the Blues in recent months and he has become an integral part of the City starting XI.
His partnership with Yaya Toure gets better each week and his ability to break up play with precision-timed tackles has been a major factor in the Blues’ form over the past two months. Can there really be many better Brazilian midfielders around?
So those are the three choices – register your vote now and you will have the chance to present the winner with the award in person (UK based entrants only) while one overseas winner will receive a personal message from the player who polls most votes.
Voting will close at noon on 8 January.
