Pellegrini disappointed with defensive lapses in Milan win

Manuel Pellegrini has refused to get carried away with reaching the final of the 2013 Audi Cup.

Despite City’s 5-3 win over Milan at the Allianz Arena, the Chilean was disappointed at the way his team allowed Milan back into the match.

The Blues were 5-0 up and cruising after Edin Dzeko scored his second goal of the game in the 34th minute but three goals over the next ten minutes gave the Rossoneri an unlikely lifeline.

Although Pellegrini’s men held out for a comfortable win, the new boss has demanded higher defensive standards when the Premier League kicks off in just over a fortnight.

"It's not normal that we can be beating Milan 5-0 after 30 minutes," he said.

"But I didn't like the last 15 minutes of the first half because I thought we relaxed before the end of the game and in football you can't do that."

...Manuel Pellegrini...

"It's better that this happens now though rather than in the Premier League so we can sort out these things before it starts."

City take on Bayern Munich in the final of the competition on Thursday evening after the European champions dispatched Sao Paulo 2-0 immediately after City’s win.

Goals from Mario Mandzukic and Mitchell Weiser did the damage for Pep Guardiola’s men, setting up a mouthwatering final against City.

Last time the Blues played the Bavarian side at their home stadium was the infamous Champions League group match in September 2011.

On that occasion, Bayern came out on top thanks to goals from Mario Gomez but City managed to reverse the scoreline at the Etihad Stadium a couple of months later.
