World Cup 2014 Ladder: Toure and Razak

Our Ivorian duo Yaya Toure and Abdul Razak are next for the World Cup Ladder treatment...

Yaya Toure

Age: 30

Caps/Goals: 78/16

International career to date…

Yaya has firmly established himself as the talisman in this golden generation of Ivory Coast talent, earning 78 caps since his debut in 2004.

He made his World Cup bow at Germany 2006 which was also the Elephants first tilt at the competition but they were eliminated in the first round despite being touted as dark horses in the media.

The same fate befell them at South Africa 2010 after they were drawn in the tournament's "Group of Death" along with Portugal and Brazil.

Will his nation be there?

Ivory Coast were the first African team to qualify for the play-offs to be played in October and November this year.

The 10 teams who make it to this stage will be paired into home and away ties with the five winners progressing to the finals.

With fellow African powerhouses Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana potential opponents, Ivory Coast's place in Brazil is by no means guaranteed.

Who's the competition?

If Ivory Coast make it to Brazil 2014, the reigning African Player of the Year will be in the first XI on Match Day One.

Cheick Tiote, Romaric, Serey Die and Mathis Bolly will probably also be in the mix but Yaya's place is assured.

International highlight

Toure's international career has so far been characterised by heartbreak at major tournaments but he scored twice in their win over Tanzania last week to confirm his nation's place in the play-offs - a brace which included this lovely free-kick...

Abdul Razak

Age 20

Caps/Goals: 4/0

International career to date…

Still a relative newcomer to the international scene, Abdul has only picked up four caps since declaring for the nation of his birth in 2012.

He appeared in the 2013 African Cup of Nations, starting in the third group match against Algeria but has yet to nail down a place in the starting XI.

Will his nation be there?

As above.

Who's the competition?

Much will depend on whether the 20-year old can break into the first team at City in the 2013/14 season.

There's quite the queue for places in Razak's position, especially after the signing of Fernandinho but if he can make an impression in the Premier League, he's in with a good shout of starting at Brazil 2014.

At international level, Cheick Tiote and Yaya stand in his way among others.

International highlight

His debut in the friendly against Russia in August 2012 stands out as one highlight for Abdul but his inclusion in the squad for the 2013 Cup of Nations in South Africa probably just pips it.
