Digging up some of the results and events from this day in City history...

22 February can be looked at as a relatively successful date for City with 12 games being played and six wins, two draws and four losses.

And one bizarre stat is that City have scored and conceded 22 goals on the 22 February!

1958

City’s season continued with an 8-4 defeat at Leicester City who moved out of the bottom three as a result.

The Filbert Street goal-fest saw Bobby Johnston score twice and further strikes from Jimmy McAdams and Ken Barnes, but the Foxes prove too sharp in front of goal and took the points in a thoroughly entertaining, if not ultimately disappointing afternoon in the East Midlands.

The Blues failed to score on just one occasion that season, plundering 104 goals and conceding 100.

1975

It was on this day 41 years ago when goals from Joe Royle, Colin Bell and Dennis Tueart sent City on their way to a 3-1 victory against Birmingham City at Maine Road.

The result left City in fourth place only two points off the top. The Blues couldn’t hold the form until the end of the season and faded away from the title race, eventually finishing in eighth position.

2009

City drew 1-1 on this day in 2009 with Liverpool to dent the Reds’ chances of winning the title.

Bellamy

It was former Liverpool man Craig Bellamy who came back to haunt his former employer by grabbing the opening goal in the 51st minute for City. The Liverpool pressure told, and with 12 minutes to play Dirk Kuyt scored the equaliser to save the point for his side.

There were a number of fine performances for City and the stand-out performer was Shay Given who pulled of a couple of world-class saves in the closing stages to deny Yossi Benayoun and Kuyt.

2012

On this day four years ago City progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League after putting four goals past Porto at the Etihad.

The Porto line-up included current City players in Nicolas Otamendi & Fernando, but they could not stop the rampant Blues who netted within 19 seconds to tighten their grip on the tie.

It was Sergio Aguero who grabbed that early strike, and three goals late on from City sealed an impressive 4-0 win to go through 6-1 on aggregate over the two legs. Edin Dzeko, David Silva and David Pizarro scored the other three to ensure the reigning champions Porto would not progress any further.
