Throwback to games and events that took place on this day in City history...

February 26 has been an action-packed date for City over the years with ten games played, four wins, one draw and five losses.

Here's the best of the facts and figures...

1949

On this day 67 years ago, City visited Middlesbrough in the First Division trying to cement their position in the top ten.

A crowd of 35,000 packed into the 26,667 capacity Ayresome Park hoping for a Boro win. However it would be Andy Black that scored the only goal of the game and give City the victory.

In his four seasons with the club, Black scored an impressive 52 goals in 146 appearances.

1966

City travelled to Brunton Park on this day in 1966 to face Carlisle United in the Second Division.

The Blues were two points clear at the top of the table and were looking to extend their lead. Goals from Mike Summerbee and Glyn Pardoe helped City secure a 2-1 win. Come the end of the season, City would win the Second Division title for the sixth time and return to the First Division.

1994

On this day in 1994, City scrambled to a 2-1 win over basement club Swindon Town courtesy of an own goal from future City midfielder Kevin Horlock and another from David Rocastle.

It extended the Blues’ unbeaten home run to six and edged Brian Horton’s side out of the bottom three where they had resided for most of the season. A crowd of 26,360 turned up – just five below the average figure for the 1994/95 campaign.

2009

Wales skipper Craig Bellamy scored twice as City scraped past FC Copenhagen and into the last 16 of the UEFA Cup on this day seven years ago.

After a 2-2 draw in Denmark, Bellamy scored in the 73 and 80th minutes to cap a superb display  for the Blues who conceded with the last kick of the game but still progressed 4-3 on aggregate.
