City will have to wait until Tuesday 19 January to discover who the FA Cup fourth round opposition will be.
The Blues pulled Wycombe Wanderers or Aston Villa out of the hat with the two teams replaying their third round tie at Villa Park on Tuesday 19 January.
City have never met Wycombe in the FA Cup, though the teams have met four times in total - all within a four-year period in the mid-to-late 1990s.
The first meeting was at Adams Park in 1995 when Premier League City were held 0-0 before the Blues triumphing 4-0 at Maine Road in the second leg.
The two clashes during the 1998/99 Division Two campaign both went the way of Wycombe who won the first meeting at Adams Park 1-0 and then completed a memorable double with a 2-1 win at Maine Road.
City and Villa have met several times in the FA Cup.
In 1995, the Blues edged a 1-0 win at Maine Road but perhaps the most memorable meeting was in the FA Cup fifth round at Villa Park in 2006 when a Micah Richards header deep into injury time earned City a 1-1 draw before the Blues won the replay 2-1 at the Etihad.
In 2011, teams met again at the Etihad with City triumphing 3-0 with goals from Yaya Toure, David Silva and Mario Balotelli - on the way to winning the trophy for the first time since 1969.
The earliest meeting between the teams was in 1900 with the Blues held 1-1 at Hyde Road before losing the return 3-0 in Birmingham.
In 1910, City beat Villa 2-1 away and then beat the Midlands side 1-0 at Hyde Road in 1915. In 1934, City thrashed Villa 6-1 in the semi-final at Leeds Road, Huddersfield - again on the way to winning the trophy.
Villa got a little payback in 1938, winning 3-2 at Villa Park - but the teams wouldn't resume battle in the FA Cup for 56 years.
Overall, there have been 10 meetings between City and Villa with the Blues winning six, drawing two and losing two.
The fourth round ties will be played over the weekend of 29 January-1 February.
