City have made four changes from the team that started in midweek against Dynamo Kyiv.

Raheem Sterling returns to the starting XI after spending the last three matches on the bench while injuries to Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi mean Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala continue where they left against Kyiv.

Bacary Sagna, who could slot into central defence if needed, gets the nod over Pablo Zabaleta at right-back.

Starting XI and bench:

Hart, Sagna, Demichelis, Mangala, Clichy, Fernandinho, Toure (c), Navas, Sterling, Silva, Aguero

Subs: Caballero, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Fernando, M.Garcia, Bony, Iheanacho

Possible tactics and formation:

City will play 4-2-3-1 against United with Yaya Toure and Fernandinho playing holding midfield roles. With Fernando starting on the bench, the attacking three behind Sergio Aguero will be Sterling on the left, Jesus Navas on the right and David Silva in his preferred central role.

The most fascinating aspect of the afternoon could be the potential battle between Mangala and Anthony Martial at one end and Aguero v Chris Smalling at the other.

The winners of both these tussles will surely influence the outcome of the 171st Manchester derby.

United starting XI:

De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Martial, Rashford
