The Blues’ slender title hopes all but ended with a crushing 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town on this day in 1935.

The loss left Wilf Wild’s side five points adrift of leaders Arsenal with eight games remaining.

Malcolm Allison (pictured) resigned on this day 43 years ago, after finding managing City a completely different beast to coaching the Blues.

His 43 games in sole charge of City following Joe Mercer’s departure saw the Blues win 14, draw 12 and 17 losses. Allison was soon in gainful employment again after landing the Crystal Palace job just a day later.

Darren Huckerby (pictured below) continued his rich vein of form with a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Maine Road.

Huckerby struck twice just before the break and completed his treble a few minutes from time to keep Kevin Keegan’s side five points clear of Wolves at the top and within eight points of the Division One title and four points away from automatic promotion

It was on this day in 2013 that Newcastle United visited the Etihad for a Premier League clash.

City were dominant, putting four past the Magpies with goals from Carlos Tevez, David Silva, Vincent Kompany and an own goal from James Perch.

Silva (pictured above) scored the best goal of the day, peeling off a Newcastle defender before smashing the ball low past the despairing goal keeper and into the bottom right corner.
