St Louis has a long tradition in football, largely due to the many people from the UK who settled in the city in the late nineteenth century. Many consider the city the original capital of soccer in the US.

St. Louis teams have won 89 national championships at the junior, senior and collegiate levels since 1920.

Thirty-nine people from St.Louis, or who spent parts of their career in St Louis, are in the U.S Soccer Hall of Fame.

Fun fact: Five St Louisans were in the starting XI when the USA beat England in the 1950 World Cup.
