I can’t help but feel a little Sarah Jessica Parker as I sit in a New York coffee shop writing this blog!
After a sun drenched few days, it seems as though the Manchester weather has finally caught up with us after the storm-like conditions I believe the City witnessed in our absence on Thursday.
We arrived back in the Big Apple in the early hours of Friday morning after a busy, but thoroughly enjoyable trip to St Louis for round one of City v Chelsea at Busch Stadium, home to the eleven time World Series champions the St Louis Cardinals.
I was truly overwhelmed by the reception from the fans upon the team’s arrival and it was clear from the outset how much it meant for them to have a Premier League game staged in their home town.
What also struck us early on was the overwhelming love of Edin Dzeko, due to the large Bosnian community in the city. Almost every fan we spoke to had the striker’s name on their shirt and had turned out in the hope of catching a glimpse of their soccer hero!
In true American style, a pep rally was held before the match and the fans staged a march to the stadium for the first international soccer game to be staged in the iconic sporting venue.
What unfolded could hardly have been predicted with the Blues staging an incredible comeback after falling 3-0 behind. It was almost as if Edin Dzeko answered the call of his Bosnian following by scoring a brace in the thrilling 4-3 win.
There is no doubt that the game will have left a lasting impression on the St Louis supporters in what was an incredible showcase for English Premier League football in the States.
As we left the ground for the airport, the players were met with crys of ‘Please come back.’ I sincerely hope we do, St Louis!
