Cloak and dagger

I wonder if some of the Sunday tabloid writers have been watching "Where Eagles Dare" of late, because there is an air of espionage around the latest transfer speculation.

According to the News of the World, "Manchester City are reported to be preparing a £20million raid for French midfielder Moussa Sissoko." But the cloak-and-dagger analogies are ramped up in The People, who claim that "Mark Hughes is reported to have flown to Munich last week on a top secret mission to convince Franck Ribery to sign for Manchester City."

The Telegraph and the Sunday Times say that City are looking for divine intervention - well, kind of. According to the two heavyweights, we're "reported" to be interested in Benfica's Angel di Maria. "Reported" by whom?

Some papers will stop at nothing to get a Michael Jackson story in these days, or so it seems, and the News of the World's Matthew Acton is claiming that Robinho is "doing a Jacko" by sleeping in an oxygen chamber in a bid to heal his injured ankle. Just beat it, Matthew.

That said, the NoTW comes up with the best headline to cover Saturday's draw with Burnley - "The Coyle barons stun the oil barons" - lovely stuff!
