It is always fun on Sundays at this time of the year to see which agents have been busy trying to move their players around and today is a prime example.

There are new names aplenty to add to the supposed list of City targets which, if the papers are to be believed, currently stretches from the City of Manchester Stadium right the way down to the Premier League headquarters.

Despite statements from the club that the Blues will be ‘less aggressive’ in the market in January the rumour mill is still grinding at a furious pace and unlikely to slow down any time soon. There is even speculation about who we might buy next summer!

Latest name under the microscope is, according to Aidan Magee in the News of the World, Argentina winger Diego Perotti who, he says, will cost £20million from Sevilla.

“City directors quizzed compatriots Carlos Tevez and Pablo Zabaleta about the Sevilla star who made his international debut this month,” reckons the NOTW man.

“Boss Mark Hughes has been identifying options for the left of his midfield since it became clear Robinho’s advisors are looking to move him on.”

The Mail on Sunday also has a Spanish flavour and reckons that a man who plays his international football for that country, Fernando Torres, is top of the Blues shopping list.

In the obligatory ‘exclusive’ Bob Cass expands his theory.

“The billionaire owners of Manchester City are to rock ailing Liverpool by launching an audacious £50million bid for star striker Fernando Torres,” he claims.

“City aim to use their financial muscle to force Liverpool to sell their prize asset and believe that if the troubled Merseyside club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League they will find it hard to refuse a big offer.”

The People’s offering to the weekly festival of conjecture and fantasy is a piece by Pete Jenson who is adamant that City are about to lock horns with Chelsea in the marketplace.

“Chelsea and Manchester City will go head to head for two European superstars this winter with Franck Ribery and Rino Gattuso BOTH on the market,” he exclaims.

“Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti and City chief Mark Hughes have been placed on red alert after Real Madrid cooled their interest in Bayern Munich star Ribery while AC Milan ace Gattuso has been told he can leave in January.”

The People also reckon we are scouting Newcastle’s Nile Ranger while the Observer joins them in linking Mark Hughes with the signing of Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson!

With all these ‘wide’ players supposedly arriving we may have to extend the size of Carrington!
