What’s that coming over the hill? Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
Well, if you really want to know, look in the Mirror (as the old advertising jingle once urged us), because David McDonnell is speculating that City are going to make a grab for Porto striker Hulk in January.
The Mirrorman helpfully informs younger readers that Hulk – real name Givanildo Vieira de Souza – is so-named because of his resemblance to actor/muscleman Lou Ferrigno who played the Marvel character in the 70s/80s TV show.
The article says that, “Manchester City are ready to offer £20million for Porto’s Hulk – to ease the burden on Carlos Tevez.
“Although Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko was top of Mancini’s shopping list, City were put off by the £50m fee demanded by the Germans for their star hitman.
“Mancini has lost faith in Emmanuel Adebayor, who is desperate to leave City for Juventus, while Brazilian forward Jo is not considered good enough and Roque Santa Cruz has been told he can find a new club.”
The line about Adebayor also crops up in most papers this morning, with the Independent’s Ian Herbert stating that, “Manchester City will be open to offers for Emmanuel Adebayor in January, though the club has received no contact from Juventus about a loan deal.
“Roberto Mancini's selection of Jo ahead of the 26-year-old for Sunday's 4-0 win over Fulham drives another nail into his City career. Adebayor was quoted by the Belgian magazine Sport/Foot yesterday saying that City had 'already reached an agreement with Juventus for a loan [and] I would therefore expect to be able to leave.' Ian goes on to add that, “City are unsure of the provenance and validity of the quotes.”
