Vincent Kompany has called on his side to rediscover the spirit of Saint James’ Park as they prepare for their trip to Newcastle this weekend.
The Blues’ 2-0 win over the Magpies last season - just days after their momentous victory over United – is often seen as the result that put the Premier League trophy well within their reach.
“Now the Blues face another test at Newcastle, not as crucial, but the fact that United have a home game with struggling Sunderland later in the day means that the gap at the top could be eight or nine points if the Blues fail to win,” writes the paper’s Stuart Brennan.
“Typically, Kompany turns that possibility on its head. ‘“We all know the importance of the game but I don’t do very well in bad scenario thinking,”’ he said.
Meanwhile, according to The Daily Mirror, Yaya Toure has tipped his teammate Mario Balotelli to become a Premier League great.
“Manchester City's controversial striker Mario Balotelli will become one of the best strikers in English football, according to teammate Yaya Toure,” reports Richard Arrowsmith.
“The Italian firebrand frustrated fans and manager alike after a rare start in Sunday's Manchester derby led to an ineffectual display that saw him substituted after 51minutes.
“The 22-year-old has had a rollercoaster ride since arriving at the Premier League in 2010 and has been consistently linked with a return to his homeland.
“His future appears to lie with City, though, with manager Roberto Mancini insisting the player is not for sale.”
