As City make their way to Dortmund for their final Champions League fixture, Maicon has predicted a more positive future for the club in Europe’s elite competition.
The Brazilian defender, who won the Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010, believes the Blues are moving in the right direction from what he has seen since arriving at the club this summer.
“Manchester City full-back Maicon believes it is only a matter of time before the club tastes Champions League success,” reports Sky Sports News.
“City have failed to progress past the group stage for the second successive year and travel to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday with only a place in the Europa League at stake.”
But Maicon said: “There is nothing missing at City. It is a great club and is working to get better in the Champions League. You can see us progressing on a monthly basis.”
“The club is growing all the time, and sooner or later City will win the Champions League because everyone is working for that.
"The big difference is that here you have to play in the Premier League as well as trying to do well in the Champions League. It is a very different competition.
“They are great players here, but they need more experience of the Champions League.”
Elsewhere, according to the Daily Mail, City are closing in on an £8.1m deal for Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu.
“Manchester City has emerged as the front-runners to sign wonder kid Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona,” writes the paper’s Lee Bryan.
“City have overtaken Chelsea in the race to capture the 18-year-old, who has an £8.1million buy-out clause.
“Since the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea have fallen behind and City are understood to be prepared to double his wages.
“Deulofeu is considered to be the stars of the Academy and is being billed in Spain as the heir to Lionel Messi’s throne.”
