Carlos apology the talk of the tabs

Only one story that interests the back pages today concerning City – Carlos Tevez’s apology.

There are various threads on the theme, but for once, all seem to agree that the former Blues skipper has made the right decision.

James Ducker in The Times sets the tone when he writes: “Carlos Tevez paved the way for a dramatic return to the Manchester City first-team last night after issuing an unreserved apology for his behaviour this season.

“In what will be seen as a victory for Roberto Mancini, the manager in his battle of wills with the player, Tevez met Brian Marwood, City’s football administration officer, and other officials at their Carrington training ground yesterday.

“He issued a short statement in conjunction with the club in which he admitted his actions has been unacceptable and apologised ‘sincerely and unreservedly to everyone I have let down.’”

All features carry excerpts from the Tevez statement with, inevitably, some drawing different conclusions from the Argentine’s words.

In truth, with the long-running saga now at an end, this is not the place to rake over some of the more controversial pieces as both club and player will want to draw a line under the episode now.

The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson is more positive than some, speculating Carlos will now hope to be quickly integrated back into the first-team picture.

He writes:  “The striker had a dramatic fallout with his manager after refusing to warm-up during a Champions League group game at Bayern Munich on 27 September and then went AWOL, returning to his homeland without permission for three months.

“Although Mancini is yet to see Tevez since the latter returned to the club last week, the manager is said to be at ease with the development.”

Onwards and forwards, as they say…
