City’s galaxy of stars must have the right mental approach if they are to become champions again - that’s according to Chelsea’s goalkeeper.

European Champions Chelsea have strengthened again this summer, bringing in Marko Marin and Eden Hazard but Cech reckons that the Blues have to rein themselves in when the season kicks off.

High Flying

“It is in their hands how they manage to solve the problem of the huge players in the same squad so it is up to them," Petr Cech told Sky Sports News.

"If they manage to get all those egos under their belt and control everybody then they will be the biggest rivals to win the title, together with Man United.

"You try to compete with everybody, no matter what squad they have. We have beaten them, we can do it again."

Cech will have the chance to check on City's mental fortitude when Chelsea take on the Blues in the Community Shield on August 12.

Meanwhile, City could be looking to trim their playing squad by sending out some youngsters on loan to gain some valuable experience.

According to the Manchester Evening News, John Guidetti could be heading for Lazio as the Blues look to test whether the Swedish striker can repeat his goal-scoring exploits at Feyenoord last year in a tougher league.

John Guidetti

“City may accede to the loan but will want to see how the 20-year-old copes in Serie A after he scored 20 goals for Feyenoord last season,” writes the paper.

“The success of that loan will encourage the Blues to send another 20-year-old, Norway Under-19 international Omar Elabdellaoui, to the Dutch club for the coming season.”

Meanwhile, a young City u18s side went to the so-called "oldest football ground in the world" for a friendly and claimed a credible 2-1 win, while the Elite Development Squad drew 2-2 on a trip up to the Lake District to face Kendal Town.

Finally, with Micah Richards joining up with Team GB, there’s an interesting piece from Barney Ronay in the Guardian, pondering whether the country will fall in love with the Olympic football team this summer.
