City stars to shine

Day three of Euro 2012 sees Spain take on Italy and the arrival of City stars David Silva and Mario Balotelli.

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes that Balotelli is ‘pure talent', telling Football Italia,

“Mario is one of those pure talents who can let you win a match. He has always behaved diligently with us. He’s 22 years old, so it’s only right that in order to grow he must be allowed to make mistakes."

The Guardian’s Amy Lawrence also thinks that Mario can shine for Italy in Euro 2012 and discusses how the pairing of Balotelli with fellow maverick Antonio Cassano may be the key to success for the Azzurri.

The Daily Mail reports that injury to David Villa puts greater expectation on City midfielder David Silva to provide goals for Spain.

The paper quotes Osasuna manager Jose Mendilibar who, having managed Silva as a teenager, believes he has the talent to deliver,

“English football has benefited from players like Silva; but we have also benefited because the players are better for the experience. You learn how to do the same things but with less time and space.

And when subtlety does not work you also know the direct approach. They come back better players, although Silva was as close to the finished article as is possible when Manchester City signed him.”

Gael Clichy has been speaking to The Guardian in anticipation of  England’s match against France on Monday. The City full back thinks that England are a strong side even without the suspended Wayne Rooney.

We are looking at a team with players of great experience like John Terry and Steven Gerrard. They could practically play without a coach.

Sergio Aguero yesterday played in an Olympic warm up game for Argentina against Brazil. Aguero’s side won the game 4-3, played in front of 81,994 at the MetLife Stadium New Jersey, largely thanks to a Lionel Messi hat trick.

Prior to the game, Sergio spoke to the New York Times  about Diego Maradona, City and ‘that’ goal saying,

I still don’t think it has sunk in. It’s weird. Only later did I start to realize how important it was to our fans. I don’t think I realized that we had won the league until the next day. I was just in a different place, my own world.

Carlos Tevez is happy at Manchester City but would like to end his career at Boca Juniors according to The Sun.

The Daily Star suggests there is a £10 million price tag for any club wanting to take Nigel De Jong away from the Etihad this summer. The same paper also suggests that City could be looking at a deal with Bayern Munich that would see Thomas Muller and Edin Dzeko swap clubs.
