With the January transfer window only just over a month away, the papers' annual matchmaking service is officially open for business.
City are never far from the media glare when it comes to talking up big money captures and Southampton’s Luke Shaw is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
“Southampton are set to open contract talks with Luke Shaw in a bid to keep the Premier League’s big guns at bay,” the Daily Star story reads.
“Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all hot on the trail of Shaw – dubbed the next Gareth Bale.
“But Saints want to reward their latest boy-wonder for making his first-team breakthrough this season with a new long-term deal and pay rise.”
Elsewhere, the suggestion that the Blues are looking to bring Wilfried Zaha in from Crystal Palace refuses to go away, with Phil Thomas writing that Mancini will fight Arsene Wenger for the player’s signature.
“SunSport revealed last week City have made the first moves to sign Zaha, 20, who won a shock call to the national squad for the recent friendly in Sweden,” Thomas writes.
“But Arsenal sources insist Wenger is confident of a January transfer window deal even though Zaha has two years left on his Crystal Palace contract.
“Gunners hope an initial bid of just over £10million, plus a variety of achievement-based add-ons, will do the trick.”
Another player who is no stranger to transfer rumours involving City is Italy’s Daniele de Rossi who is yet again being linked with a move.
“Manchester City are closing in on £25m Italian World Cup winner Daniele de Rossi,” Scott Coleman writes.
“Roma midfielder De Rossi was a surprise guest at City’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with his partner Sarah.
“And Starsport understands the 29-year-old held talks with the club about a January transfer.”
Elsewhere, Abdisalam Ibraham is reportedly a target for Steve Clarke’s high-flying West Brom.
The midfielder has only just returned from a successful loan spell with Norweigan side Stromgodset but the Daily Mail believes he’s a £750,000 target for the Midlands club.
So, as you see, plenty of conjecture flying around as January approaches – just make sure you take it all with a pinch of salt until you see anything confirmed here on mcfc.co.uk!
