Despite the lack of Premier League fixtures this weekend, it’s nice to see so many familiar names dominating the back pages this morning following last night’s international programme.

As reported in our round-up last night, the Blues’ Vincent KompanyEdin Dzeko and James Milner all netted for their respective countries in the first of the World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Irish outlet RTE heap praise on City’s skipper as he led his country to a 2-0 win over Wales, meanwhile Dzeko’s hat-trick made him Bosnia’s all-time leading scorer as they thrashed Liechtenstein 8-1.

James Milner also got himself on the score sheet in England’s impressive 5-0 win over Moldova and his energetic performance for the Three Lions hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“This was one for the scrapbooks of players like James Milner, who delivered his finest shift in an England shirt,” comments The Telegraph’s Henry Winter

“A font of energy and intelligence in possession, a sustained force first down the right flank and then the left.”

Elsewhere, The Mail carry some positive news, hinting that Micah Richards could be back in training by the end of the month.

“The versatile defender has earmarked a return to light training in two to three weeks,” claims the paper’s Sami Mokbel.

“The 24-year-old could be back in the first-team by mid-October - in time for the Champions League clashes against Ajax, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund - as long as his rehabilitation goes to plan.”

Of course, we will be first to let you know when Micah is ready to return to the fold.
