After the first team returned home from Germany last night, today’s media round up contains an Italian flavour.

We begin with reported City target Adem Ljajic, who is yet to sign a new deal with Serie A side Fiorentina – according to the Daily Express.

The Serbian winger’s hesitation in committing his future to La Viola is said to have attracted interest from AC Milan and Chelsea, as well as City – who reportedly lead the chase for his services.

Ben Jefferson writes: “It was thought that Ljajic was content to remain with La Viola, but the player's hesitation in signing a new contract, amidst reported interest from Manchester City and AC Milan, has the club frustrated.

“And Fiorentina's sporting director, Danile Prade, has now hinted that Ljajic's future at the club is now far from certain.

“Prade said: ‘There will be an important meeting between his agent and our president, but our club wants only motivated people who are willing to stay at Fiorentina.’”

Elsewhere in Serie A, Napoli are said to be interested in luring Gareth Barry away from the Etihad Stadium.

Caughtoffside, via a report in Tutto Sport, reports that the midfielder, who started City’s game against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena last night, has caught the eye of manager Rafa Benitez.

“The experienced England international’s current future at Eastlands is very much up in the air, with the 32-year-old still to receive any concrete assurances from new City head coach Manuel Pellegrini about his long-term future in the north west,” explains Bernard Thompson.

“The holding midfield player’s present contract with the mega-rich Premier League outfit now only runs until June 30 2014, and with still no sign whatsoever about the club offering Barry a new deal to extend his stay at the Etihad stadium beyond next summer, the player is understood to be seriously considering his future at City.”

Finally, Roque Santa Cruz has talked up Manuel Pellegrini’s qualities ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

The pair worked together while the former City striker was on loan at Malaga, and Santa Cruz is confident that the Chilean will be a success in Manchester.

"Pellegrini deserves the chance to win titles and be successful. He has great qualities when it comes to managing so many stars, a high-profile dressing room,” the Paraguayan frontman told Sky Sports.

"The way that he is as a person - relaxed and calm - will make players feel important and part of the City project.

"He is good with squad rotation and a guy who can put everyone on the same ship."
