Most reports concerning Manchester City this morning suggest Roberto Mancini is ready to ring in the changes ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Leeds.
The Blues boss was openly critical of his players’ performance on Saturday after their shock defeat to Southampton at St. Mary’s.
“Roberto Mancini is ready to drop a number of his underperforming frontline players for Manchester City's FA Cup tie against Leeds United on Sunday, conscious that his position as manager will be severely weakened if his team go out of the competition,” writes the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson.
“With only 12 [Premier League] matches left City's hopes of retaining the title appear remote and Mancini knows that if the side's form were to falter further then the club's hierarchy may consider his position.
“The Italian will be required to ensure his players do not let the gap to United become greater and that they make a serious challenge for the Cup.”
Elsewhere, news has emerged from Spain that alleged City target Edinson Cavani will be subject to a huge bid from Real Madrid this summer.
Mundo Deportivo reports: “Real Madrid have offered 56 million to Naples for Cavani ahead of next season.”
“That’s according to the Italian press, who are convinced that Naples will accept that offer.”
