All quiet on the Western Front, as the saying goes.
International week always means the focus shifts from club to country and as a result, there are meagre offerings in today’s Press.
Of the few stories knocking around that do concern City, Steve Perrin of the Daily Express re-visits an alleged long-time City target in his story today.
He writes: “Manchester City have designs on bringing Stevan Jovetic to Eastlands in the summer.
“The Fiorentina hit man is seen as a replacement for Mario Balotelli, who left the club last month to join fellow Serie A outfit AC Milan.
“Jovetic was on Arsenal’s radar last window but interest in the striker later cooled. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was quoted on Italian football site Forza Italian Football, as saying: ‘It is hard to find a replacement for Balotelli in January. Jovetic really interest us, he would be a good fit.
‘We are moving now, because in May champions are already reserved. We are interested in Falcao, but Jovetic is also a fit.'”
Elsewhere Give Me Football's Paul Bailey links French giants PSG with a possible summer move for Joleon Lescott.
Whether there is any truth in the rumour we won’t know for several months – such is the beauty of transfer speculation!
“The Serbian stopper has settled in well alongside City captain Vincent Kompany at the heart of Mancini's defence, after arriving at the Etihad Stadium from Fiorentina in a €15million deal.
“Lescott's restricted game-time has alerted the attention of PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is keen to bring the former Everton star to Parc des Princes at the end of the season, in a bid to strengthen the Ligue 1 leaders' defence.”
That’s about it!
