Manuel Pellegrini has given Edin Dzeko a vote of confidence ahead of the new season according to reports this morning.
The Sun is just one of a few papers claiming the manager has told the Bosnian hit man that he has big plans for him this coming campaign.
“The Blues boss insisted striker Dzeko will be given a chance to seal a starting place - despite the arrivals of Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo at a cost of £45million,” writes the paper’s Antony Kastrinakis.
“Bosnian Dzeko, 27, is expected to head City’s front-line in tonight’s friendly with AC Milan in the Audi Cup here in Munich.”
“The Spanish giants have made no secret of their search for another centre-half this summer,” reports Rob Dawson.
“But they have been left frustrated in their attempts to prise Thiago Silva away from Paris Saint-Germain after the Brazilian signed a new five-year deal to stay in the French capital this week.”
“Reports in Spain suggest new Barcelona coach Tata Martino identified Kompany and Chelsea defender David Luiz as his top targets during a meeting with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta on Monday.”
“But any enquiry from the Nou Camp is likely to be rebuffed by City.”
Finally for now, Sergio Aguero is set to miss out on Argentina’s friendly against Italy in a fortnight’s time.
“Striker Aguero is missing from an all foreign-based squad coach Alejandro Sabella named on Tuesday for Argentina's friendly against Italy in Rome next month,” reports Reuters.
“Aguero, who is nursing an injury, will miss the August 14 match at the Olimpico in honour of Pope Francis who will receive the two squads at the Vatican on the eve of the match.”
As we prepare to enter August, remember we will be first with any confirmed transfer news in or out of the club this summer.
