MEN: City monitoring Messi

City are keeping a close eye on Lionel Messi, according to press reports.

The club have been linked with a long list of names over the summer, and apparently you can add the Barcelona star’s name to the ever-increasing pile.

An article on the Manchester Evening News website explains: “The Blues are one of four clubs prepared to offer 120m euros for world player of the year Messi, report Spanish paper AS.

“The 25-year-old and his father Jorge Horacio will appear for questioning in September as part of an investigation into alleged tax fraud in relation to the player's image rights.

“City, along with fellow big spenders Paris Saint Germain, Anzhi Makhachkala and Monaco, are reportedly monitoring the situation and could move for him in the next transfer window.”

Elsewhere, this morning’s papers are still focusing on yesterday’s transfer announcements of Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic.

Negredo

While plenty has already been written about Jovetic’s talents, a scouting report in the Mirror should also make for sweet breakfast reading for Blues fans.

Sevilla’s former striker grabbed 102 goals in 209 appearances during his time in La Liga. This includes the 70 appearances with Almeria where he made his name, and the 139 with last employers Sevilla,” reports David Cartlidge.

“He is a thoroughbred forward, traditional in many aspects but with a penchant for bringing flair into his game. One moment he can be bulldozing his way through a defence, then in another look to connect with a floated cross via a bicycle kick.”

You can watch our behind the scenes video of Negredo’s signing day, plus an interview with the striker, here.

Finally, Feyenoord have reportedly declared their interest in a reunion with John Guidettiif a story in the Daily Express is to be believed.

Sunderland have already been linked with a move for the striker, but the paper’s Ben Jefferson reports that the Dutch side could be keen to bring Guidetti back to the Eredivisie, where the 21-year-old spent the 2011-12 season on loan.

He writes: “Guidetti became a fans favourite during his time in Rotterdam, scoring 20 goals in just 23 appearances, and now the club have confirmed they would love to bring him back.

“Speaking to AD newspaper Van Geel said: ‘Guidetti is in our hearts and the door is always open for him," he told the AD newspaper.

"‘If a godsend occurs, we would naturally increase our squad with him.’

“However, Van Geel went on to say that Feyenoord have yet to make a bid for the striker.

“He added: ‘I would like to say clearly that no concrete efforts have been made to get him.’"

That’s all for this morning’s rumours, folks.
