Today’s top story concerns Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez and a proposed bid to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
Alexis has only made 9 starts for the Catalan giants so far this season after falling down the pecking order and Daily Mirror journalist David McDonnell believes that it could be time for a fresh start for the Chilean forward at City.
“City tried to buy the Chile international in the summer of 2011, before Sanchez eventually joined Barca for £22million,” McDonnell writes.
“But with Sanchez no longer a regular starter for the Catalans, City are understood to be weighing up a move for him.
Liverpool have also been linked with the 24-year-old but City’s guarantee of Champions League football has put them in pole position.

In other transfer news, Porto’s France u21 defender Eliaquim Mangala is also said to be interesting City scouts and a move could on the cards this summer – that’s according to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail.
“Manchester City have added Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala to their list of transfer targets for the summer,” Jones states.
“Porto want £17.5m for the France U21 international and will sell this summer.”
Elsewhere, City are reportedly staking an interest in Watford’s Matej Vydra ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Czech striker is on loan at the Hornets from their parent club Udinese and has scored 20 goals in 29 appearances for Watford so far this season.
“City have been keeping tabs on Vydra for several weeks now and are impressed with the Czech Republic international's goalscoring form,” writes Romeo Agresti of Goal.com.
“The Premier League champions have no plans to make a move for the prolific striker yet, but will continue to closely monitor his development.
“Juventus, meanwhile, are similarly impressed with the forward, and are considering making a move for Vydra in the summer transfer window.”
Finally, with the 2012/13 season reaching its denouement, talk is inevitably turning towards the Premier League’s individual awards and one name consistently; head-scratching left out of the conversation for the young player of the year gong is Matija Nastasic.
The 19-year old’s mature, classy performances may not have gone unnoticed by fans but by the media at large it seems they've gone under the radar… until now.
Excellent football stats blog English Premier League Index has gone on the hunt for the Premier League’s best centre back and it’ll come as no surprise to City supporters that Nastasic is in there with the best of them.
Their research, powered by Opta, finds that Matija has won 96% of his tackles (one of the highest percentages in the league), has made no errors leading to goals and has only been shown one yellow card all season.
Plenty of food for thought going into awards season…
