Sergio Aguero’s blistering form is attracting attention and praise from all quarters, particularly his team-mates
We’ll start with Negredo – another in-form striker – who cites Sergio as the reason he’s settled into Premier League life so well.
Writing in the Manchester Evening News, Stuart Brennan reports: “The Spanish international netted City’s first-ever Champions League treble in the 5-2 rout of CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night, with Aguero grabbing the other two to become the club’s highest scorer in European competition history.
And ‘Beast’ Negredo, fast attaining cult status among fans who love his blend of committed physicality and deft skills, said the Argentina star makes it simple
“The two have rapidly become City’s first-choice strike pairing, scoring a staggering 15 goals in the six games they have started together.
"Negredo says they hit it off right away: ‘It’s been very good from the first day, and especially with both us speaking Spanish – we understand each other well.
‘He’s a great player and it’s easy to get along with great players. From the first moment we did well together and with him, Edin Dzeko and myself, when we play, we understand one another.’”
Pablo Zabaleta, who knows Kun as well as anyone in the City team, added on Goal. Com. ‘He's one of those seven or eight top strikers in the world, ’Zabaleta told Goal.com.
‘Kun is a very decisive player and has the capacity to change speed with the ball and start and stop with incredible velocity. He has an impressive balance in his lower body, speed to slalom and it is incredible how he finishes.
‘Every year, we see some surprising goals. It's hard to see a striker with that capacity because there are some guys like Lionel Messi or Angel Di Maria that are very fast and can change the game but none like Kun in what he does best.’
And completing a notable treble, former City legend Francis Lee is quoted on TalkSport.com and believes Aguero's form is largely down to new striker Negredo.
Dom Bryant writes: “The deadly duo ran riot in the 5-2 victory over CSKA Moscow with the Spaniard grabbing a hat-trick and the Argentine adding his own brace to put City in the knock-out stages of the Champions League for the first time.
“And Lee says Aguero will only get better with the former Sevilla man alongside him this season.
‘Aguero is benefiting amazingly from the inclusion of Negredo in this team because Negredo is a big, skillful type of old fashioned centre forward,’ Lee told Drive Time.
‘He’s good in the air, he picks the ball up, he uses it well and Sergio is now having a different lease of life. Before he was the lead striker having the ball played into his feet when he’s got his back to the defender.’
As former Sky Sports commentator Andy Gray might say, ‘Sergio, take a bow, son.
