It’s an extremely light morning as far as City-related speculation goes in the pixelated and paper pages of the media.
With the Blues’ visit to Selhurst Park not taking place until Sunday, the world’s media are waiting with bated breath for the result of the Liverpool v Chelsea showdown at Anfield to see what impact to the title race City’s penultimate away game of the season could have.
A man of the match performance and goal against West Brom on Monday night on top of a series of fine showings means that there’s murmurs of an unexpected World Cup call-up for Martin Demichelis. The 33 year-old Argentine defender has be on the receiving end of some unfair criticism since his January move to the Etihad; blamed at large for a number of City’s poor results in February, however he has played down talk of a surprise appearance in Brazil this summer.
“I feel prepared for returning to the national team," The Mirror’s David Anderson reports.
“I would like to have a kind of personal revenge on the World Cup. I think that as a defender, I am the right age.
“Where do I see myself during the World Cup? I am 95 per cent I think that I am going to be on holiday."
Will Martin get a late call-up from Argentina coach Alex Sabella and link up for Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta in Brazil? Fingers crossed!
The defender also revealed in the Daily Star that he hopes to finish his career at Argentinian side River Plate, where he started his career as a 19-year-old.
“I am totally thankful to the club where I started my career.
“I am a River Plate supporter since I was a child and I hope that I can end my career there."
Elsewhere, the Manchester Evening News are running a poll amongst City fans to see who they would prefer to replace David Silva in the side against Crystal Palace on Sunday with five candidates in the running. We’re still waiting on firm news as to the extent of the Spanish maestro’s ankle injury sustained against the Baggie’s on Monday evening, but as ever, mcfc.co.uk is the place to hear the real story when it emerges.
As ever, we’ll have Manuel Pellegrini’s pre-match press conference and player previews ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park from tomorrow on the website, so stay tuned!
