It’s extremely meagre pickings on the City rumour front this morning.
If you were hoping for a feast, you’ll have to satisfy yourself with the few crumbs I was able to find among this morning’s media.
With the small matter of an FA Cup clash with Watford on today’s menu, there’s plenty of City content to consume on mcfc.co.uk. Start with Manuel Pellegrini’s press conference, or the latest Inside City.
Back to the speculation, and defenders remain a popular choice for column inches. Today, it’s Kurt Zouma grabbing the headlines, with reports he is a back-up option for the Blues if a deal for Porto’s Eliaqium Mangala becomes impossible.
Eduardo Fernandez-Abascal reports: “With Lescott's future up in the air, the Chilean boss is looking to sign a centre-back and due to the difficulties in signing his first choice, Porto's Eliaquim Mangala, he is considering Zouma and Bayern Munich defender Dante as back-up alternatives.
“Nevertheless, it is understood that Chelsea remain favourite to secure the services of Zouma as the player recently claimed that he was keen on playing for the Blues - even suggesting that Mourinho had made a personal approach to sign him.”
Can’t seem to shake off Chelsea in the “transfer battle” stakes this morning for some reason – this time it’s Hulk that’s allegedly the subject of a tussle.
In a 21st century twist to the transfer story cliché, the Zenit St Peterburg man has posted a photo on instagram of himself arriving at Luton Airport – sadly it doesn’t look like a selfie – and the Daily Mail claim he is being offered to City, as well as Chelsea.
Writes the paper’s Simon Jones: “Hulk has caused a stir by posting pictures of himself flying into Luton Airport with his Zenit team-mate Luis Neto.
“He is being offered to clubs in England while Monaco have expressed an interest following the injury to his former Porto strike partner Radamel Falcao.
“The Brazil forward's representatives have been looking to talk to Manchester City and Chelsea to see if they have interest.”
Finally, and I am really scraping the barrel here, City are said to have backed off from any deal to sign Ajax winger Ricardo Kishna.
The Blues were reportedly interested in battling Liverpool for his signature, but have apparently now left the way clear for the Reds or Spurs to land their man – that one’s according to Sports Direct News.
Richard Flynn explains: “Manchester City’s interest in the teenager is said to have cooled, meaning Anfield or White Hart Lane are Kishna’s likely destinations if he chooses the Premier League over Serie A.”
That really is it for today, but we’ll be back tomorrow with more of the same. Until then, remember these are just rumours and nothing is confirmed until you read it here on mcfc.co.uk.
